Benghazi municipal council starts roadworks – Al Marsad

Libya, 16 March 2019– Benghazi municipal council on Saturday started resurfacing the streets around Maidan Al-Shajara (Tree Square) in the centre of the city.

It is part of the road-works and paving that the council has embarked on in the city in recent days.

Benghazi youth had already launched a voluntary campaign to repair some of the dilapidated roads while demanding that the municipality assume its responsibilities and start work on roads.

For its part the municipal council has said that resurfacing has begun on Ahmed Rafiq al-Mahdawi Street and the intersection of Algiers Street and Istiqlal Street.

In a related move, the municipality, in coordination with the local security room, has removed some of the slums that were illegally built in Gwarsha district and the neighbouring Safsafa area.
