Committee to investigate prisoners’ conditions set up by HoR – Al Marsad

Libya, 2 April 2019– The House of Representatives (HoR) has decided to set up a committee to look into the conditions of prisoners held in jails operated by the interim government interior ministry and other state institutions. The decision, taken at Monday’s session, came at the end of a debate on the issue following a number of complaints about conditions received by the HoR’s interior affairs committee.

The new committee will comprise the chairmen of the parliaments’ committees on interior affairs, defense and national security, justice and human rights. It will cooperate with the interior ministry.

According to the HoR’s information office, just under 90 members took part in the session, chaired by Ageela Saleh.

Meanwhile, in Tripoli the same day, five HoR members met the Presidency Council’s interior minister, Fathi Bashagha, to discuss developments in the security situation across the country. The members were Zawia members Abdallah Alafi and Aisha Shalabi, Busalah Shalabi (Brak Al-Shatti), Almahdi Alawar (Um al-Aranib) and Hassan al-Tahir (Bani Walid).
