Ammari claims GNA will defeat LNA, accuses it of “indiscriminate shelling” of residential areas – Al Marsad

Libya, 15 April 2019 – Presidency Council member Mohamed Ammari Zayed has accused the Libyan National Army (LNA) led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar of “indiscriminate shelling” of residential areas in Tripoli. Speaking to Al-Jazeera TV on Sunday, he said it constituted a war crime – one more in the “criminal record” of the field marshal, he claimed.

In a statement to the station on Sunday, the firmly pro-Islamist and anti-Haftar PC member accused LNA forces of indiscriminate shelling of civilian neighbourhoods in Tripoli. He said it was a desperate attempt to demoralise Tripoli residents’ morale after the shooting down of an LNA aircraft by forces linked to the PC’s government of national accord (GNA), allegedly south of the capital.

The PC member vowed that GNA forces would defeat the field marshal and his troops and prosecute them internationally for war crimes.

Ammari also met the same day with Yousef Ibderi who was replaced as mayor of Gharyan by interim prime minister Abdullah Al-Thini ten days ago. Ammari claimed that Gharyan would be retaken. He also disclosed that all funding for public services in Gharayn would go only to the elected municipal council which Ibderi heads, and not to the one appointed by Thini.

Meanwhile several violent explosions and shelling were reported in areas near the Airport Road after midnight, and near west Tripoli’s Al-Zuhoor neighbourhood. According to the LNA’s military information office, forces commanded by Abu Sleem militia leader Ghneiwa Al-Kikli have been responsible for firing missiles into civilian areas nearby.
