[Libya, 31 May 2019] – Abdel Salam Abou Rzaiza, an ISIS militant wanted by security and military departments in Benghazi, was killed Thursday in battles against the Libyan National Army (LNA) on Tripoli Airport Road, south of the Libyan capital. The same frontline witnessed the killing of another extremist, Mohamed Ben Dardaf, aka al-Babur.

Some Facebook and Twitter accounts, affiliated with the Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries, posted obituaries eulogizing Abou Rzaiza, aka Bou Khashm.

Abou Rzaiza lived in the Allaithy neighborhood in Benghazi before moving to the outskirts of the city a few years ago.

Abou Rzaiza was a member of the militant battalion of Rafallah al-Sahati, with whom he fought against the Army, from 2014 to the end of 2016 in the Benina Airport battles, as well as in the battles that took place around the military barracks. He is also accused of executing a number of assassinations.

Sources say that he joined ISIS in 2015 and fought with the terrorist organization in some of Benghazi’s neighborhoods such as Allaithy, al-Guwarsha, al-Hawary, and the Chinese housing district. These areas witnessed the fiercest engagements and the most heinous atrocities committed by ISIS and its allies, the Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries and Ansar-al-Sharia.

The whereabouts of Abou Rzaiza were unknown since he fled Benghazi in 2016. It is believed he ended up in Misrata, the city and domicile of his family who also left Benghazi.

Sources close to the remnants of the Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries said that Abou Rzaiza was a member of the Warrior Brigade. Other sources claimed he was part of a group working with the jihadist Ziad Balaam.
