HoR Discusses Murzuq, Sergewa Disappearance, and Dissident Parliamentarians – Al Marsad

The Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday resumed its regular sessions at its temporary headquarters in the eastern city of Tobruk, chaired by its Speaker, Aguila Saleh.

[Libya, 19 August 2019] – Abdullah Blaiheg, the spokesperson of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), said in a briefing sent to Al Marsad that the HoR discussed a number of issues, the most important of which was the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s recent statement on Libya, the support of the HoR and its legitimacy, and the unfolding events in the southwestern city of Murzuq.

Conducting a review of these topics, the members attending the HoR session reached the following conclusions:

1. Appreciating the recent statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry; hailing the role played by Arab Republic of Egypt as a people, president, and government in support of the legitimate authority represented in the elected parliament of the Libyan people, as well as Egypt’s support of the Libyan National Army (LNA) in its fight against terrorism; the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), hereby, instructs its Foreign Committee to maintain continuous communication and coordination with the Egyptian authorities to facilitate travel procedures for Libyan citizens in Egypt, and to ease any burdens in this regard.

2. Issuing an official statement on behalf of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), condemning the developments in the city of Murzuq and the formation of a crisis committee to support its people in the city.

3. Urging the competent authorities to exert more efforts to identify the whereabouts of the member of the House of Representatives, Ms. Siham Sergewa, as well as identify the perpetrators, and demanding that the Ministry of Interior provide a detailed report on the findings of the investigations so far.

4. Assigning the competent committees to study the report of the Administrative Control Authority in preparation for summoning the Libyan Interim Government and the relevant institutions to discuss the contents of the report.

5. Forming a committee of jurists from the members of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) to prepare a proposal on the dissident HoR Members of Parliament who are holding meetings in the city of Tripoli.

6. Urging the interim government to improve the salary scale of retirees.
