Mesmari: The LNA is Battling Against Qatar and Turkey in Tripoli – Al Marsad

The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General  Ahmed al-Mesmari, confirmed that the battle in Tripoli exposed the destructive role played by both Qatar and Turkey in Libya .

[Libya, 9 September 2019] – “After 2011, we discovered that Qatar had become a major player in Libya in a number of ways, such as political recognition and fatwas,” Al-Mesmari said in an interview with Sky News Arabia, according to the Russian News Agency, Sputnik, on Thursday.

“The first country to recognize the National Transitional Council, and the first airlifted weapons shipment to arrive in Benghazi was from the State of Qatar, and was dedicated to the so-called the Benghazi Revolutionaries Coalition, and was unloaded by the terrorist Ali al-Sallabi, who currently lives in Qatar,” Major General Ahmed al-Mesmari confirmed.

Al-Mesmari pointed out that Qatari has sent military trainers who have been training their armed loyalist militants on sniper weapons in particular. “The Qatari role still exists in Libya militarily, materially, and politically, as the Emir of Qatar attacks the Libyan National Army in every political forum as if the Libyan National Army is an enemy of Qatar fighting on its borders,” Al-Mesmari said.

Regarding the blatant Turkish interference in the internal affairs of Libya, al-Mesmari said that the Libyan National Army (LNA) discovered Ankara’s involvement in Libya since the beginning of the fight against terrorism in Benghazi in 2014.

He pointed out that the LNA has documents showing terrorists who fought against LNA Operation Dignity in Benghazi receiving medical treatment in Turkish hospitals.

“After the liberation of Benghazi, LNA soldiers found Turkish explosives, weapons, and ammunition. Ankara has been fighting the Libyan National Army behind the mask of the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda, but this mask fell in the battle of Tripoli, which began last April,” the Spokesman of the LNA General Command added.

Al-Mesmari also confirmed that the LNA is fighting the Turkish military experts who control the drones and trainers who train Tripoli armed militias.

The LNA spokesperson stressed that the variable in the battle of Tripoli is represented in the Turkish direct engagement in support of the GNA forces and its aligned militias and armed groups. Therefore, the Air Force of the Libyan National Army bombed them directly.

Referring to the shooting down of the tenth Turkish unmanned plane on Wednesday, al-Mesmari said that “there is an open battle between the Libyan National Army and the Turks in the Libyan capital.” Addressing the Turkish regime, al-Mesmari said, “What happens after the battle in Tripoli ends in favor of the Libyan National Army? What are the interests of the Turkish people in meddling in Libya? “

He described the battle in Tripoli, which the National Army has been waging for months, as an “all-out war against terrorism and organized crime that spread in Libya after 2011”. He added that the Tripoli battle was one of several battles approved by the General Command of the Libyan  National Army after studying the military situation across Libya.

He also pointed out that after the liberation of Benghazi, the Libyan National Army (LNA) advanced towards the Oil Crescent region where outstanding accomplishments have been achieved on the ground such as the remarkable increase in Libya’s oil production from a low output of 180,000 barrels of crude oil output per day to about 1,200,000 barrels, pointing out that the oil installations and terminals are operating normally.

“In Derna, the LNA fought a battle for the elimination of a large terrorist camp. The LNA secured the south-western regions of the country within just three weeks. After that, Tripoli, which suffers heavily from the crimes of the armed militias, was chosen. All state institutions are seated in Tripoli, such as the National Oil Corporation, which may be a source of terrorist financing, and the Central Bank of Libya which is utilized by the terrorist organizations to fund their illicit activities,” al-Mesmari continued.

Al-Mesmari said that the leadership of the Libyan National Army does not set a timetable for the battle in Tripoli, which now runs into its fifth month, pointing out that the goal is to eliminate terrorism and its sources of funding.

He stressed that the President of the Presidential Council, Fayez al-Sarraj, committed a drastic mistake when he allied himself with the militias and gave them the cover of legitimacy.

LNA spokesperson stressed that the Libyan National Army is not targeting Mr. Fayez al-Sarraj. The LNA solely concentrates on uprooting terrorism and eliminating the terrorists who committed crimes inside Libya and abroad, in countries such as Syria and Iraq.
