Mahjoub: GNA’s Smear Campaign Against the LNA is to Hide Losses on the Battlefield – Al Marsad

The Libyan National Army’s Brigadier General Khalid Al-Mahjoub said that the talk of officials in the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) about the presence of Russian mercenaries in the ranks of the Libyan National Army (LNA) lack any evidence.

[Libya, 10 November 2019] – The Director of the Moral Guidance Department of the Armed Forces and Director of the Media Center of the Army Dignity Operations Room Brigadier General Mahjoub said in exclusive statements to the Alhurra TV Channel on Saturday that the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli resorts to political and media propaganda to cover up the field losses of its militias on the frontlines. He indicated that the GNA, on one hand, puts forward initiatives to resolve the crisis and sends mediators to the Libyan National Army (LNA) who propose a settlement that does not exclude the army; while, on the other hand, simultaneously wages smear and rumours campaigns to distort the image of the Libyan National Army (LNA).

Mahjoub added that this accusation is not new; it was used during the counter-terrorism battles in the city of Benghazi where the LNA was accused of recruiting mercenaries. However, these accusations had been completely refuted because they were and still are baseless, untrue, and unconvincing to the national public opinion, according to Brigadier General Mahjoub.

LNA’s Brigadier General Mahjoub explained that the Libyan National Army jet fighters that fell in the past months were led by Libyan pilots, while the LNA forces in the past months arrested a foreign mercenary pilot who was on a warplane that was shot down in the axes of fighting and admitted that he received money from the Government of National Accord to fight against the LNA forces.
