Haftar to Salamé: It’s Necessary to Dismantle and Disarm the Militias – Al Marsad

Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar met with UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Libya Ghassan Salamé for consultations on the latest developments in Libya.

[Libya, 1 November 2019] – According to the Media Bureau of the LNA Spokesman Major General Ahmed al-Mesmari, Ghassan Salamé briefed Field Marshal Haftar on the outcome of the talks on the Berlin conference to be held in December next year, and listened to the LNA General Command’s view on the current situation.

Field Marshal Haftar stressed the important role of the UNSMIL and its Envoy to Libya and the statement of the General Command of the Libyan National Army related to the meetings in New York and Berlin and that the statement represents the position of the LNA General Command on the need to eliminate terrorist groups and dismantle and disarm the militias and armed groups. Haftar also stressed the need to find a legitimate authority in Libya acceptable to the Libyan people and firmly on a constitutional basis.

The meeting with the SRSG was very positive in the context of brainstorming, exchanging views and assisting the UNSMIL in carrying out its work in serving the national interest of Libya.
