After Meeting Sarraj, Siala and Bashagha, Coates Meets with Nayed and Christian Buck – Al Marsad

The Chairman of the Libya Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS), Dr Aref Ali Nayed met on Saturday with Dr Victoria Coates, US Deputy Head of the National Security Council (NSC) for Middle East and North Africa. The meeting was attended also by the Regional Director for Near East, Middle East and North Africa, German Federal Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Christian Buck.

[Libya, 23 November 2019] – According to Dr Nayed’s official Facebook page the participants discussed the latest developments in Libya and the preparations for the Berlin conference.

“This meeting is a continuation of the previous meetings that he said he had recently held in Washington with the National Security Council, the State Department and several US ministries and agencies,” said Dr Nayed, who is well known for his opposition to the President of the Government of National Accord (GNA) and his Muslim Brotherhood allies.

The GNA’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Taha Siala and the Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha had met with Coates in Washington, DC, on 16 November. She was the highest US official they met during their visit to the United States during their participation in the meetings Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.

The President of the Presidential Council, Fayez al-Sarraj, also met with Coates earlier on 27 September in New York with a high-level GNA delegation on the sidelines of a conference United Nations. Al-Sarraj said at the meeting that the LNA attack on Tripoli was “an aggression that they insist on defeating.”
