LIFG Military Leader: Turkish Forces in Libya Will Shift Balance of Power in Favour of the GNA Armed Groups – Al Marsad

The military official at the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) Khaled al-Sharif, or Abu Hazim as he is known, categorized the statement made by Erdogan on his willingness to deploy Turkish soldiers in Libya to support the armed groups aligned with the Government of National Accord (GNA) as a major political development.

[Libya, 10 December 2019] – Khaled al-Sharif claimed in a social media post on his personal Facebook account that was viewed by Al Marsad that if the GNA officially request the deployment of Turkish boots on the ground, the balance of power in the Tripoli fighting will tilt in favour of the GNA armed groups.

According to al-Sharif, the Libyan dossier will be one of the most important topics in the forthcoming Russian-Turkish summit, particularly in light of the recent maritime agreement concluded between the Presidential Council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) and Turkey. The LIFG senior leader believes that the Ankara Government will now take what he described as greater steps in support of the Tripoli Government of Fayez al-Sarraj after the conclusion of the Turkish-Russian meetings.
