Sarraj Agrees to Cooperate with Qatar on Security and Economic Issues – Al Marsad

The head of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez Al-Sarraj met in the morning in the Qatari capital, Doha, with the Qatari Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thani, and the meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) Mohamed Siala and Chargé d’affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Qatar Salem Karim.

[Libya, 15 December 2019] – According to Fayez al-Sarraj’s media office, the meeting discussed developments in Libya, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation.

According to sources, the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the economic and security fields, and affirmed their keenness to unify their efforts towards establishing security and stability in the region.

The Government of National Accord (GNA) is finding itself increasingly embattled since the signing of the MOUs with Erdogan after receiving strong international criticism for an agreement that could threaten to destabilize the eastern Mediterranean. Turkey and Qatar are two of the main supporters of Islamism in the region and the GNA, which is backed by Islamist militias, enjoys their support.
