Putin and Macron Exchange Views on the Latest Developments in Libya – Al Marsad

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, discussed during a telephone conversation on Tuesday with the French President, Emmanuel Macron, a number of important dossiers, particularly the latest developments in Libya as well as the situation in both the Ukraine and Syria.

[Libya, 18 December 2019] – The Russian leader and his French counterpart confirmed their support for the mediating efforts by the United Nations and Germany to reach a peaceful settlement to the Libyan conflict.

“When exchanging opinions on Libya, the presidents noted the importance of resolving the crisis through political-diplomatic means” said the Kremlin according to the Russian news agency TASS.

Furthermore, “during the telephone conversation, Putin and Macron focused on the importance of a decisive fight against terrorism and close coordination of actions in this area was emphasized by both sides. The Libyan crisis and the situation in Syria were brought up, as well as last week’s Normandy summit talks. The two presidents agreed on the need to resolve the Libyan crisis diplomatically.”
