Agenzia Nova: Fayez Al-Sarraj is Expected to Meet Turkey’s Mevlut Cavusoglu in Algeria Today – Al Marsad

According to Algerian sources reported by the Italian Agenzia Nova, the head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al Sarraj, will meet Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Algeria today to discuss with local authorities the latest developments of the crisis in Tripoli in a bid to drag Algeria into an alliance against the Libyan National Army (LNA).

Turkey is supported the GNA militarily against the offensive on Tripoli by the Libyan National Army (LNA). Last night Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that a first contingent of military personnel had already been sent to Libya. However, Erdogan and Sarraj are also trying to form a regional front against Haftar and his allies. Their attempts to enlist Tunisia and Algerian into an anti-LNA alliance failed.

Last December the Turkish president was in Tunisia where he met the new president Kais Saied, who however made it known that he did not want to engage the country in the conflict in Libya. Now Sarraj and Cavusoglu will discuss with Algerian leaders the position of Algiers. The Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum has already spoken out against the deployment of forces in the Libyan territory.

The head of the GNA is accompanied by Foreign Minister Mohammed Siala and Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha. According to reports from Ankara, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu is expected to stay in Algiers for two days.
