Angela Merkel Invites Algeria to Attend Berlin Conference on Libya – Al Marsad

Algerian President Abdel Majid Taboun received on Monday a phone call from German Chancellor Angela Merkel who invited Algeria to take part in the Berlin conference on Libya.

[Libya, 7 January 2020] – The two sides reviewed, according to the Algerian News Agency, their analysis of the situation in Libya and the prospects for peace in Libya.

The two sides affirmed their agreement on the necessity of urgently finding a political solution to the Libyan crisis, an immediate end to the armed conflict, and an end to foreign military interventions.

Merkel formally extended an invitation to Algeria to attend the international conference on Libya to be organized in Berlin.

Last month, the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that Greece also wanted to have a role in the talks on the future of Libya as it is a neighboring country and has asked to take part in the Berlin Conference. There is, however, no confirmation yet if Greece will also be participating or when the Berlin conference scheduled to take place.
