Germany Announces Follow-Up Meetings to Libya Summit at Ministerial Level in February – Al Marsad

German Foreign Minister Heikou Maas announced today, Monday, that the follow-up meetings on Berlin Conference will be held at ministerial level early in February.

[Libya, 20 January 2020] – “After the Libya Summit in Berlin, the federal government soon announced another high-level meeting with the participants will take place in early February at the level of the foreign ministers,” said Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in Brussels on Monday.

The Libya summit was “only the beginning of a process for a lasting peace in Libya,” said Maas. The German Foreign Minister attended a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. It is about “integrating the European Union into this process,” said the minister.

In the same context, Maas declined to speculate on proposals for an EU military mission on Sunday evening. With a view to controlling a permanent ceasefire, “it is not about military operations, it can be about an observation mission,” he said.
