Putin Aide: Field Marshal Haftar Expressed his Willingness to Visit Russia – Al Marsad

Yuri Ushakov, Aide to the Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced that the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, confirmed in a letter written to the Russian President Vladimir Putin before the Libya Summit that was held in Berlin on Sunday, his willingness to visit the Russian Federation.

[Libya, 23 January 2020] – Yuri Ushakov informed journalists in Moscow today, according to the Russian news agency, Sputnik, that “there is no information about the arrival of Field Marshal Haftar. Before the Berlin Conference on Libya, Field Marshal Haftar wrote a letter to our leader, President Putin, where he highlighted our role in the settlement process and expressed willingness to travel to Moscow if circumstances allow. However, We don’t have any specific information in this regard.”

It is noteworthy that the Berlin conference was held last Sunday under the auspices of the United Nations and the final statement of the conference called on all parties to refrain from any activities that would exacerbate the situation or conflict with the UN arms embargo or ceasefire.
