Turkey’s AKP: Implementing an Arms Embargo on Libya will not Achieve Real Positive Results – Al Marsad

The ruling Turkish Justice and Development Party (AKP) spokesperson, Ömer Çelik said that implementing the UN arms embargo on Libya will not achieve real positive results.

[Libya, 18 February 2020] – “The implementation of the arms embargo on Libya by the European Union will not give positive results because some European countries directly support and provide weapons to the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar,” said Çelik during a press conference held on Monday in the party’s headquarters in Ankara, according to the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

He added that the ban should be carried out by the United Nations and not the EU, noting that Turkey’s efforts in this regard are the strongest compared to other countries.

The AKP’s spokesman expressed his dissatisfaction over the lack of action by the international community against Field Marshal Haftar.
