Badri: Fayez Al-Sarraj’s Will End Up Exiled or Face Trial – Al Marsad

Mr. Abdul-Salam Al-Badri, Libyan Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed that the rumors on the presence of Italian troops in Libya were inaccurate and asserted that the forces that exist in Libya are to provide medical assistance and cannot fight terrorism, unlike what the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is doing with the transfer of Syrian militants.

[Libya, 23 March 2020] – In an exclusive interview with the Egyptian newspaper Al-Dustour, on Sunday, Al-Badri stressed that the solution to the Libyan crisis lies in the hands of the Libyan people only. He said the Geneva Conference and the withdrawal of the parliamentary delegation was expected because the United Nations has been antagonizing the Libyan people since the Skhirat Conference.

We translate here in English the full interview:

Q: There are press statements about sending Italian troops to Libya. What is your comment?

A: Rumors about sending Italian forces to Libya is inaccurate. There are Italian medical support forces in Misrata. We do not think that Italy intends to stand on the side of terrorism as Turkey did.

Q: What is the future fate of Fayez al-Sarraj?

A: Like any traitor to his country, Sarraj’s eventual place will be in the dustbin of history. He will end up exiled outside liberated Libya or arrested to stand a fair trial and imprisoned.

Q: What do you think of the withdrawal of the parliamentary delegation from the Geneva talks?

A: The withdrawal of the Parliament delegation from the Geneva talks came in protest against the bias of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), which has antagonized the Libyan people since the Skhirat meetings.

Q: What is the practical solution for the Libyan crisis in your view?

A: The solution to the Libyan crisis lies in the hands of the Libyan people and their meeting together inside Libya without extraneous ideologies, such as those of the Muslim Brotherhood or others.

Q: The Sarraj government asked the United States to establish a military base in Libya. What do you think of that?

A: Sarraj’s request to the United States to establish a military base in Libya is typical of his treason which knows no limits.

Q: How do you see the position of UNSMIL and its disregard for the questions of the Libyan Parliament?

A: The United Nations and its Mission have never stood with the Libyan people. Therefore, it is not strange that it supports the wrong side. It has always been like this since 1948.

Q: What is the position of the interim government on Erdogan’s continued smuggling of weapons and mercenaries into Libya?

A: Erdogan suffers from a psychological crisis. He has not stopped transferring mercenaries in Syria nor sending terrorist mercenaries and weapons to Libya. As representatives of the Libyan government, we know this very well and support our armed forces— which will prevail, God willing

Q: What is the government plan if the Geneva Conference fails?

A: We know that the Geneva Conference is stillborn because its components are illogical. How can those who fight for Libya have dialogue with those who sold Libya to Turkey and others?

Q: How do you see the Emir of Qatar’s recent visit to Turkey?

A: The Emir of Qatar’s father conspired against Libya and planned to seize its wealth. Like father, like son, they both eye Libyan wealth but he will not win despite his alliance with Erdogan, who claims to be an Islamic leader while Islam has nothing to do with his actions.
