Mishri and Shakshak Discuss Formation of International Committee to Audit Libya’s Central Bank – Al Marsad

The Chairman of the advisory High Council of State, Khaled al-Mishri, who is also a key member of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Justice and Construction party, along with other key representatives met with the Chairman of the Audit Bureau in Tripoli, Khalid Shakshak, on Sunday in Tripoli to discuss the formation of an international committee to audit the Central Bank of Libya.

[Libya, 14 April 2020] – The meeting at head offices of the Audit Bureau in Tripoli between Khaled al-Mishri, the chairman of the advisory High Council of State, and the Chairman of the Audit Bureau in Tripoli, Khalid Shakshak, was also attended by the first deputy chairman of the Council Mohammed Baqi, Belgacem Daberz, the Chairman of the Commission for National Reconciliation Hammad Brikaw, the Chairman of the legal committee, the Chairman of the media committee, and Khalid Shakshak’s deputy Alaa al-Masallati, as well as a number of directors of administrations.

According to the State Council’s media office, the issues addressed during the meeting included the economic situation in the country and the Audit Bureau performance in terms of audits and accountability of the parties being audited, including Libya’s Central Bank. The Bureau presented a detailed explanation to the advisory State Council addressing the Bureau’s stand on the State Council’s request to the UN delegation in Libya to form an international committee to audit the Central Bank of Libya.

The Council showed understanding toward the Bureau’s stand and agreed to study the matter internally to ensure efficient audit is performed on the transactions dealing with public funds and ensure that it is used and handled correctly.

Another addressed issue was the coronavirus COVID19 crisis and the results of the actions taken by authorities dedicated to combating the virus.
