Siala and British Minister Discuss Ceasefire in Libya – Al Marsad

The Foreign Affairs Minister of the Tripoli-based Government of the National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Taher Siala received on Thursday, a phone call from the UK’s Minister of State for Africa and the Middle East James Cleverly. Siala discussed with Cleverly the latest developments of the conflict in Libya and the discussion of a sustainable ceasefire, according to a statement released by the GNA’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

[Libya, 18 April 2020] – James Cleverly affirmed that the British government stood by the GNA considering it “the legitimate government” in Libya and its support for the ceasefire efforts, according to the GNA’s Foreign Ministry’s statement.

According to the statement, Cleverly was also briefed on the current economic conditions and the suffering of Libyan citizens , the plan of the GNA regarding preventive measures to fight the coronavirus and intensifying efforts with international organizations to provide the needs to combat the pandemic.

Cleverly confirmed that his country had urged the World Health Organization (WHO) to into account the special circumstances of Libya and the importance of humanitarian support at this critical stage.
