Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi stressed on Monday that Amman supports the humanitarian truce in Libya which foreign ministers of Germany, France and Italy and the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs urged. Safadi noted that the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan should inspire the concerned parties to resume talks so that a real ceasefire and peace talks could be accomplished.

[Libya, 28 April 2020] – Ayman Safadi said that the the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan supports the European call because it enjoys the support of the United Nations’ Secretary-General and Ms. Stephanie Williams, the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), to accomplish a humanitarian truce in Libya.

He said that Jordan, along with other global voices, urges the Libyan warring parties to resume talks, stop violence and cooperate with each other to combat common challenges, most notably the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, COVID-19, and its consequences.

Safadi affirmed the importance of responding to the UN Secretary General’s call to stop all forms of conflicts.
