Italian Ambassador Congratulates GNA on Liberation of Al-Watiyah Airbase – Al Marsad

The Media and Communications Department of the Presidential Council indicated today, Monday, that the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Puccini, congratulated the Presidential Council for “the liberation of Al-Watiyah Airbase and its return to fold of the country.” “The security and stability of Libya are integral to the security and stability of Italy,” stated the Media and Communications Department according to the source.

(Libya, 19 May 2020) – The comments were made during Ambassador Giuseppe Puccini’s meeting with Ahmed Hamza, the member of the Presidential Council, this morning, during which he also praised the precautionary measures taken by the Government of National Accord (GNA) to curb the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and the prevent infection.

The meeting, held at the Cabinet Headquarters in Tripoli, addressed the aspects of cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially the economic and security, illegal immigration and the practical steps to resolve this issue permanently, and stop the flow of migrants from origin countries.

For his part, Hamza expressed the GNA’s gratitude for the support it received from the Italian government in its war against terrorism during Operation Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous, aborting the ISIS project in Sirte, its treatment of the wounded in the Operation, and the establishment of the field hospital in Misrata.

GNA’s militants had managed on Monday to enter Al-Waityah Airbase after more than 100 Turkish airstrikes over the past two days.
