German Newspaper: “In The Last 7 Days Turkey Sent 10 Military Cargo Planes With Weapons to Misrata” – Al Marsad

A German newspaper has revealed that during the past 7 days, Turkey sent 10 military cargo planes loaded with weapons to Misrata in clear violation of the UN-imposed arms embargo on Libya.

(Libya, 2 May 2020) – The newspaper Handelsblatt said: “The European Union works to achieve stability in Libya and revive the peace process. Therefore, it launched the maritime Operation IRINI in the Mediterranean to prevent smuggling of arms to Libya.”

“However, the soldiers participating in the European mission are now looking up to the sky after Ankara intensified the transportation of weapons to Libya by air,” added Handelsblatt.

The newspaper quoted unnamed significant sources as saying: “In the last 7 days, Turkey sent 10 military cargo planes loaded with weapons to Misrata. The planes were spotted at Istanbul airport before taking off to Tripoli.”

The newspaper went on to say: “Ankara continues to violate the UN resolution to ban the export of arms to Libya thus fuelling the dramatic escalation there.”
