Before Moscow Visit, Maiteeq Talks to US Ambassador on Returning to “5+5” Military Track – Al Marsad

The US Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland telephoned Ahmed Maiteeq on Tuesday, the member of the Presidential Council, to discuss the latest developments in Libya.

(Libya, 3 May 2020) – According to the media office of the Government of National Accord (GNA), the call covered military developments, including the so-called “indiscriminate shelling” of civilians, which resulted in casualties during the past two days in Souq al-Talat area, at a time when the world’s efforts unite to combat the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The two sides touched on the return of the 5+5 military track, which is one of the Berlin tracks. Norland affirmed the continuation of the political and economic tracks as per the outcomes of the Berlin Conference.

Maiteeq asserted the US’s role in achieving stability in Libya and reopen the oil fields, whose closure has negatively affected the general budget of the country. He also stressed the need for the US’s continued support for economic dialogue to ensure the success of the economic reforms program.
