Erdogan Says Haftar Has No Place at the Negotiating Table – Al Marsad

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged to increase Turkish support for the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Libya, adding that he has agreed with Fayez al-Sarraj to a new phase of maritime cooperation in the eastern Mediterranean and to start oil exploration off the coast of Libya.

(Libya, 4 June 2020) – Speaking at a joint press conference with Sarraj, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency (AA), Erdogan said he aims to develop the existing cooperation with Sarraj’s government as regards the utilization of natural resources in the eastern Mediterranean, including research and exploration.

He accused the Libyan armed forces of selling oil illegally, saying: “We reiterate our call to prevent attempts to sell the Libyan people’s oil illegally by the putschist Haftar.”

Erdogan added: “A person (Field Marshal Haftar) who poses a permanent threat to Libya’s future cannot sit at the negotiating table on this matter.”

At the end of his speech, the Turkish President indicated that Sarraj and his government have always taken a positive attitude towards the political solution, according to his claim, accusing the armed forces of committing war crimes. He made, however, no reference to the massacre perpetrated by Turkish drones yesterday in Qasr bin Ghashir which killed 12 family members, including women and children.
