Bashagha to Maiteeq: “We Will Control Jufra and Sirte; Only Opportunists Fall to Pressure” – Al Marsad

The controversial Minister of Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Fathi Bashagha commented on the leaks on orders given by Ahmed Maiteeq, member of the Presidential Council for Misrata, to the Sirte-Jufra Liberation Operations Room to stop military operations and to stop attacks on Sirte. The leaks indicated that Maiteeq argued that Sirte is a red line for the Russians. The Sirte-Jufra Liberation Operations Room report to the Presidential Council to which Ahmed Maiteeq is a member.

(Libya, 7 June 2020) – In a tweet on his official page, Fathi Bashagha stated that al-Watiya and al-Qaradabiyah bases in Sirte and al-Jufra, the entire city of Sirte, and all the cities of the west and south will be under the control of Fayez al-Sarraj’s GNA. He said he hoped not to be forced to mention people by their names, in reference to Maiteeq.

Regarding Maiteeq’s reference to red lines, Bashagha said, “The red lines are drawn by the blood of our martyrs. Only the weak and servile opportunists succumb to foreign pressure.”

The GNA’s Interior Minister vowed to complete their attack on Sirte, saying, “Sirte will return to the fold of the homeland and will be under the legitimacy umbrella. We will not waste the blood of our men from 2011 until now passing by al-Bunyan al-Marsous and the Volcano of Anger. Sirte will return without restrictions by God’s grace and the determination of men.”

Abdul-Malik Al-Madani, the Spokesperson of the parallel Military Information Division affiliated to the Volcano of Anger has revealed that a person he described as “a high-profile fool”, in reference to Ahmad Maiteeq, whom he dubbed the “prodigy child”, called the Commander of the Sirte-Jufra Liberation Operations Room to convey a message from the Russians not to attack Sirte. He argued it is a red line and that the forces should withdraw to Buerat el-Hussoun.

Last week, A former inmate at Mitiga prison, managed by the Special Deterrent Force (RADA), accused the Minister of Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, of ripping out his eye with a spoon while he was being held under inhumane conditions at the prison in 2019.
