Qatar Defies Arab and International World and Dismisses the Cairo Declaration – Al Marsad

Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Thani said on Sunday that Khalifa Haftar (Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Haftar) is only concerned with the political process when he loses.

(Libya, 7 June 2020) – Mohammed Al-Thani said in an interview with the French Le Monde newspaper that what he described as “the failure of the Haftar’s militia” indicates that the conflict in Libya should be resolved politically and not by coups and military aggression, as he put it.

He concluded: “Haftar has always preferred the use of violence (…) He only resorts to the political process when he loses but then re-uses force. If there is a lesson to be learned, it is that the international community must comply with the political process within the framework of international law and the UN resolutions. Doing so would have spared many Libyans and the country’s resources.”
