Bogdanov Tells Al-Hweij that Cairo Declaration is Basis for Libyan-Libyan Negotiations

Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian President’s Special Envoy to the Middle East and North Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, discussed the situation in Libya with the Libyan Foreign Minister, Abdulhadi Al-Hweij in Moscow.

(Libya, 17 June 2020) – The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement following the meeting held in Moscow on Tuesday, according to RT in which it stated that the two sides exchanged views on the situation in Libya. The statement added that the Russian side praised the Cairo Declaration issued on 6 June, which called on the parties to the Libyan conflict to stop the hostilities immediately and unconditionally and to launch the negotiation process.

It was emphasized that the terms of this declaration are the basis for Libyan-Libyan negotiations aimed at finding compromises on post-conflict issues in Libya.
