Jordan Stands with Egypt and Supports Political Settlement in Libya – Al Marsad

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received today, Sunday, a phone call from Ayman Safadi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

(Libya, 20 June 2020) – According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the call reviewed the bilateral cooperation and the developments in this file that reflect the depth and historical relations between the two countries and peoples as well as the directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah II to solidify the bonds between the two countries even further.

As for the Libyan issue, Safadi stressed Jordan’s full support to Egypt in the face of any threat to its security and stability, stressing that Egypt’s security is integral to Jordan’s and a pillar of the overarching regional security and stability.

The two ministers agreed on the importance of supporting all efforts to reach a political settlement to the Libyan crisis as soon as possible to preserve Libya’s unity and territorial integrity and realize the aspirations of the Libyan people in terms of controlling their resources and capabilities and paving the way for regaining security and stability according to the outcomes of the Berlin Conference and the Cairo Declaration.

In conclusion, the two ministers stressed the importance of reaching a sustainable ceasefire in Libya and taking all necessary measures to prevent the deterioration of the crisis lest Libya would turn into an arena for regional and international conflicts.
