(Libya, 10 July 2020) – Abdel-Hamid al-Safi, the media advisor to the President of the Libyan Parliament, told Al Marsad today from Geneva that Chancellor Aguila Saleh discussed with Williams the support of the Cairo Declaration and its implementation mechanism, and also urged the UN envoy to exert more efforts within the United Nations.

The President of the House of Representatives (HOR) stressed the necessity of a fair distribution of oil revenues rather that directing them to finance mercenaries and militias. He emphasized that it was popular will that closed oil exports, criticising the allegations of Mustafa Sanallah that it was the presence of foreign powers inside oil installations that closed them.

Al-Safi added that Williams stressed the need for a political solution to the Libyan crisis. He also said Chancellor Saleh indicated to the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) the fact that there are mercenaries and terrorists in Libya, and that the HD was not aware of all details on he matter.

Al-Safi added that the HD’s Higher Committee confirmed that it would send letters to the UN Security Council (UNSC) calling for the lifting of the ban on arming the Libyan National Army (LNA), pointing out that the HD is a neutral institution trying to bring views on international conflicts closer.

Al-Safi confirmed that the HOR President will hold tomorrow, on the second day of his visit to Geneva, several important meetings with leading figures, ambassadors, and relevant international bodies.
