Turkish and Qatari Defense Ministers Meet with the GNA in Tripoli – Al Marsad

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and Chief of Staff Yaşar Güler arrived today in Tripoli to discuss the activities carried out under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Fayez al-Sarraj on security and military cooperation with the militants of the Government of National Accord (GNA). The Qatari Defence Minister Khalid al-Attiyah also arrived in Tripoli to take part in the joint tripartite meeting. 

(Libya,  17 August 2020) – The correspondent of the Turkish Anadolu news agency explained that Akar and Guler arrived at Mitiga airport to a military ceremony. The Turkish delegation was received at the airport by Salah al-Namroush, the Deputy Undersecretary of the GNA’s Defense Ministry, Muhammad al-Sharif, the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Council, along with the Turkish ambassador to Tripoli, Sarhan Aksan, and several Turkish officials.

After the reception ceremony, Akar and Güler headed to the Turkish headquarters at the Mitiga base.

Al-Namroush had also received at the same time Khalid al-Attiyah, the Qatari Defense Minister, at Mitiga base. They held a joint tripartite meeting before the Turkish minister went to the Turkish headquarters in Mitiga that witnesses the planning of the military operations of the GNA’s militants and the Syrian mercenaries whom Qatar funds their expenses and salaries in exchange for their support to the GNA’s militants in Libya.
