Ihya Libya Bloc Welcomes the Ceasefire Statements by Aguila Saleh and Sarraj – Al Marsad

The Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya) bloc said that it welcomed the statements issued by the head of the Libyan Parliament and by the head of the Presidential Council on a comprehensive and nationwide ceasefire in Libya.

(Libya, 21 August 2020) – In a statement issued by its Chairman, Dr Aref Ali Nayed, the Bloc welcomed the statements issued today, Friday, by the President of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the President of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA), who agreed to declare a ceasefire throughout all of Libya and to resume the Libyan-Libyan political dialogue.

“These two statements, if supported by sincere intentions, hard work, and real national, regional, and international guarantees, can form the basis for a comprehensive Libyan-Libyan negotiation,” added the statement.

“This will save Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and freedom and expedite relief for the Libyan citizens who are daily deprived of their security, safety, health, livelihood, and hope for a stable and prosperous life.

“It will also salvage the wealth of the Libyan people from waste, corruption, terrorism financing, and unjust distribution and expedite the removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries off the entire Libyan soil and the dismantling of all irregular armed groups,” asserted the Ihya Libya Bloc.

The Bloc also expressed its hope that such agreement will lead to urgent presidential and parliamentary elections that renew legitimacy in Libya and give every Libyan their right to authorize whomever they want through the ballot boxes rather than populist or military mobilization, extension, and stalling under flimsy legitimacy arguments.

“It is noteworthy that the Ihya Libya Bloc has addressed an Open Letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on June 29, 2020. It included basic elements in common with the two statements issued today, along with other points we consider very important to ensure the credibility, success, and stability of the ceasefire steps and the resumption of political path,” asserted the Bloc.
