John Bolton Objects to Turkish Presence in Libya – Al Marsad

Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton said that he strongly objects to Turkish presence in Libya and that the policy of US President Donald Trump and Europe in dealing with the Libya file lacks clarity.

(Libya, 23 August 2020) – John Bolton, in an interview with the Egyptian Sada al-Balad website, said: “I do not believe that the political settlement between Sarraj and Haftar under the auspices of the United Nations, which is the policy favored by the United States, will succeed. This has been on the table for years but now the conflict has worsened with more foreign interference in Libya.”

“For Egypt, this is a very important question. Egypt needs its western borders to be stable and the neighboring regime not to be a terrorist one. Therefore, from the point of view of the United States that made a decision to overthrow Gaddafi in 2011, the irony lies in the fact that the Obama administration abandoned Libya, as it did with Iraq, thus furthering the forces of chaos and disorder,” argued Bolton.

“I do not like Turkey’s involvement in supporting Sarraj or that of any foreign forces there,” concluded the former US National Security Adviser. he said that the deterioration of the situation in Libya was not in the best interests of the United States or of Egypt.
