Okasha: Ceasefire Initiative is the Beginning of the End of Armed Chaos – Al Marsad

The General Director of the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies (ECSS), Khaled Okasha said that the ceasefire in Libya was the beginning of the path that would eventually end armed chaos.

(Libya, 23 August 2020) – In a programmed aired on Sada Al-Balad TV and reported by Akhbar el-Yom newspaper, Khaled  Okasha argued that after the ceasefire statements in Libya, there is a clear preference for a political solution to promote security and stability in entire Libya.

He said that Egypt is feeling optimistic because the ceasefire decision came according to the Cairo Initiative, which is the best path for rebuilding Libya, establishing a new constitution, and allowing  Libyans to become the decision-makers.

The ECSS’s director pointed out that Libya is going through a transitional period that needs to be managed with integrity and sincerity for the well-being of the country.

He urged the Libyan people to invest in restoring stability to Libya by using the current international focus on their country, explaining the importance of the ceasefire agreement on the management of oil revenues for the benefit of the Libyan people. This was particularly critical, according to Okasha, as oil revenues have been used in ways that have not benefited Libya such as spending it on militias, mercenaries and illegal entities.

Okasha stressed that Egypt is ready to face any move that affects the process of peaceful transition.
