Sarraj: The Choice of the Civil State is Irreversible – Al Marsad

The remaining members of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA) held a meeting on Saturday, headed by Fayez al-Sarraj, in the presence of the member of the Presidential Council for Misrata, Ahmed Maiteeq, Muhammad Amari Zayed, and Ahmed Hamza.

(Libya, 23 August 2020) – According to the Presidential Council’s information office, the meeting reviewed the recent developments in the country and assessed the regional and international positions towards the Libyan crisis. The Council thanked Turkey, Qatar, and the countries that supported the GNA’s position and the Libyan people during the current crisis.

The Presidential Council hoped that Egypt would have a positive role in the next stage of building, stability, and peace, as hoped.

The meeting stressed that a modern civil state is an irreversible option, stressing its steadfast position rejecting the militarization of the state out of respect to the “martyrs’” sacrifices, in response to the demand of the Libyans, and to preserve Libya’s security, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.

The Presidential Council stressed the importance of resuming a clearly established political process in which there is no place for those who killed the Libyans and whoever has committed violations that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Without naming such parties, the Council asserted that they would be held accountable.

The Council stressed the need to resume oil production and exports to support the economy, fulfil the needs of citizens and alleviate their suffering.

On the other hand, it stressed that its goal is to hold the parliamentary and presidential elections based on a sound constitutional rule agreed upon by Libyans to reach a permanent and stable political stage.
