AFRICOM: Turkey and Its Mercenaries Degrade Libya’s Security – Al Marsad

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) censured Turkey and its mercenaries in Libya on Wednesday, stressing that they undermine the country’s security.

(Libya, 3 September 2020) – AFRICOM confirmed in a report submitted to the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), according to Al-Ain Al-Ikhbariyyah newspaper, that Turkey had deployed several hundred regular troops to Libya where they committed atrocities against Libyans.

It added that the troops include teams of trainers, advisors, operators of Turkish air defense systems, and technicians who prepare improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

AFRICOM added that “More still, Turkey shipped more than 5,000 mercenaries to support the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli, all of them transported on Turkish military aircraft.”

The report also indicated that the mercenaries who were transported by Turkey have criminal records and committed atrocities and transgressions.

AFRICOM pointed out that they committed crimes against the Libyans, and are “inexperienced, uneducated, and motivated by promises of considerable salary.”
