General Command: Muslim Brotherhood’s Al-Mishri Pressured Maiteeq to Cancel His Visit to Sirte – Al Marsad

The General Command of the Libyan National Army issued a statement on Friday on reopening oil exports. The General Command confirmed its active participation in the intra-Libyan dialogue with the active and positive participation of Ahmed Maiteeq, the member of the Presidential Council for the city of Misrata.

“We know that the difficult economic situation that we are going through has affected the Libyan people in the West, East, and South, and even the Libyans abroad. Therefore, following the joint agreement with the tribal sheikhs, we are ready to reopen the oilfields to secure Libya’s future for one month. We hope that during this period all measures will be taken within the framework of the Libyan-Libyan dialogue led by Ahmed Maiteeq and that all agreements will be implemented for the benefit of the Libyan people and the future of Libya” the LNA General Command

(Libya, 19 September 2020) – The statement affirmed that the parties have agreed on a fair distribution of oil revenues to serve all Libyans in the eastern, western, and southern regions alike and the formation of a joint committee to solve all disputes and outstanding issues between all parties, indicating that the Libyan tribal sheikhs and members of the House of Representatives (HoR) have contributed positively to bringing the views of the negotiating parties closer.

it pointed out that, at the end of the discussions, a preliminary understanding was reached and agreed by all parties, which signed and submitted the same for ratification.

The statement indicated that the first working meeting of the committee headed by Ahmed Maiteeq and the LNA General Command was scheduled to take place on Friday in a venue secured by the armed forces in Sirte, where negotiations have been taking place.

However, the LNA General Command regretted that the Muslim Brotherhood militia in Tripoli, led by Khaled Al-Mishri, pressured Maiteeq and forced him to cancel his visit as part of its repeated attempts to undermine the cCommittee’s work.

“Regardless of these violations, we are still open to the intra-Libyan dialogue and ready to work on the basis of the concluded agreement. Sirte is ready to receive the dialogue members and welcomes all efforts geared to maintain Libya’s integrity.

“We know that the difficult economic situation that we are going through has affected the Libyan people in the West, East, and South, and even the Libyans abroad. Therefore, following the joint agreement with the tribal sheikhs, we are ready to reopen the oilfields to secure Libya’s future for one month. We hope that during this period all measures will be taken within the framework of the Libyan-Libyan dialogue led by Ahmed Maiteeq and that all agreements will be implemented for the benefit of the Libyan people and the future of Libya,” the LNA General Command concluded its statement.
