Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi warned that any infringement of the Red Line in Sirte and Al-Jufra will be swiftly dealt with by Egypt in defense of its own national security and the safety of its people.

(Libya, 23 September 2020) – In a speech before the United Nations General Assembly, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that his country is committed to helping Libyans rid their country of terrorist organizations and militias, as well as stopping blatant interference from some regional parties.

Sisi sEgypt continues to support UN-led efforts to reach a political settlement based on the 2015 agreement signed in Skhirat, Morocco, and this year’s Berlin conference and Cairo Declaration which was launched by the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Commander of the Libyan National Army. The Cairo Declaration said President El-Sisi was a “joint and comprehensive political initiative to end the conflict in Libya, and includes specific steps and a clear schedule to restore order, to establish a consensual government that reaches to the Libyan’s aspirations.”

“The repercussions of the crisis are not limited to the Libyan interior but affect the security of neighboring countries and international stability. Egypt is determined to support Libyan brothers in order to rid their country of terrorist organizations and militias and stop the blatant intervention of some regional parties that brought foreign fighters to Libya in order to achieve known ambitions and colonial delusions.”

Sisi stressed that countries that penetrate international resolutions are held to account, adding that Egypt is keen to establish international peace and security and that his country calls for an approach that achieves security and stability.
