Ramaphosa Congratulates Field Marshal Haftar for Signing the Ceasefire Agreement – Al Marsad

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, received a call from the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday.

(Libya, 4 November 2020) – In a statement by the General Command of the Armed Forces indicated that the call discussed the latest developments of the Libyan crisis and the African role to solve the crisis, especially as President Cyril Ramaphosa heads the African Union in its current session.

President Ramaphosa stressed the role of the Libyan military in fighting terrorism, the rule of law and institutions, and the rejection of negative foreign interventions.

He also congratulated Field Marshal Haftar on the important step of signing the ceasefire agreement, noting that this showed that the General Command of the Armed Forces was a professional and disciplined military institution which respected the rules of international and humanitarian law.

The General Command noted that the call was arranged in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Libyan government.
