Stephanie Williams: Elections Within 18 months, LPDF Agrees – Al Marsad

UNSMIL’s Stephanie Williams confirmed yesterday, Wednesday, that the participants in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) in Tunisia have reached an agreement on holding Libyan parliamentary and presidential elections within 18 months.

(Libya, 3 November 2020) – The Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Stephanie Williams said at a press conference from the Tunisian capital, as reported by the Russian news agency Sputnik: “The participants have reached a solution to end the transitional period and organize fair, comprehensive, and credible parliamentary and presidential elections. They clarified the steps to reach the elections on a constitutional basis.”

Williams stressed that the elections will take place within 18 months, indicating that the discussions in Tunisia were constructive, expressing her happiness at the pace of those negotiations.
