Bashagha Discusses with Egyptian Delegation Ways to Support the Ceasefire Agreement – Al Marsad

The Misratan Minister of Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, met with the Egyptian delegation visiting Tripoli, and discussed common security challenges and ways to enhance security cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was held in the presence of the head of GNAs Intelligence Service, Imad Trabelsi.

(Libya, 27 December 2020) – The meeting discussed, according to the media office of the GNA’s Interior Ministry, ways to support the ceasefire agreement and discuss the outputs of the 5+5 joint military committee in order to support the international efforts on political dialogue and get out of the current crisis by political and peaceful means.

The Ministry indicated that the meeting comes within the security policies of the Ministry, which aim to consolidate cooperation with “brotherly and friendly” countries, and the importance of joint work between Cairo and Tripoli.

The meeting with the Egyptian delegations follows the visit this weekend by Turkish “war delegation” led by Defence Minister Hulusi Akar. Egypt has made it clear that it does not approve the presence of foreign troops inside Libya and that it will not accept any infringement of Sirte-al-Jufra red line. The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA) also warned that Turkish troops and mercenaries need to leave Libyan soil.
