Turkey Seeks Better Ties with Israel as Sadiq Gharyani Calls for UAE Boycott – Al Marsad

The radical Islamist cleric ousted by the House of Representatives (HoR), Sadiq al-Gharyani, called on his followers to boycott UAE products over the country’s normalisation of relations with Israel, paying no attention however to growing Turkey-Israel ties.

(Libya, 27 December 2020) – Radical Islamist cleric Sadiq al-Ghariani, who is based in Turkey, in his weekly appearance on his channel Tanasuh TV, urged his followers to boycott goods of the countries that normalised relations with Israel, mainly the UAE, claiming “the Zionist entity’s industries are now being exported in the name of Emirati companies”.

As is his usual practice, al-Gharyani praised the “Turkish ally” and described President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as “the guardian of Muslims”, even though Turkey was the first Islamic country to recognise the state of Israel in 1949. Erdogan’s recent remarks on Turkey-Israel ties attest to the growing bilateral cooperation, especially at the intelligence level, on which al-Gharyani remained suspiciously silent.

Commenting on the rapprochement between Morocco and Israel, the cleric said: “The outgoing US President has blackmailed Morocco as he did before with Sudan … and bought the cause of Jerusalem and Muslims for a little price”.

Al-Ghayiani ignored Turkey’s ties with Israel and Erdogan’s visit to the tomb of the founder of the Zionist movement Theodor Herzl in Jerusalem after his intimate visit to his close friend, the former Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon.

While showering praise on Turkey, which is a staple of his weekly address, and relying on selective memory, the radical cleric fell short of addressing concerns over Ankara’s cosying up to Israel and the fate of the Palestinian cause.
