Al-Falah: Those Who Overturned the 2014 Elections Will Also Impede the December Elections – Al Marsad

The head of the Libyan Organization for Political Development, Jamal al-Falah, said that Libyans yearn for Presidential and Parliamentary elections because it will end the chaotic phase and lack of political legitimacy and put an end to division in the country.

(Libya, 3 January 2021) – In a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper on Sunday, Jamal al-Falah said that there are parties in the political scene that wish to prolong the political crisis and continue to place obstacles to all solutions because they know that they will be excluded from the public scene by fair and democratic elections.

He stressed that elections need constitutional and legal grounds, which is not available yet. Al-Falah said: “We do not want elections without a constitution or legal basis, to obstruct the way for those who are skeptical about their integrity and validity.”

“There are parties that greatly benefit from the current scene, with its division and chaos, the very same ones who overturned the elections of the House of Representatives (HoR) in 2014 after losing. We expect that they will obstruct everything that leads to the loss of their illegal gains,” he added.

Al-Falah was concerned about the lack of seriousness of the international community towards the right of the public to have elections. He said previous international conferences had also earmarked dates for holding the elections and preparing constitutional basis to end the transitional stage, and yet when these dates approached they were interrupted by the establishment by yet another conference and the extension of the transitional period.”
