The Misratan Minister of Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha held a meeting with members of the 5+5 Military Committee that are affiliated to the Presidential Council on Tuesday, in the presence of the Director of the General Directorate of Security Operations Ali al-Nuwaisri.

(Libya, 5 January 2021) – According to the Media Office of the Ministry of Interior, the meeting discussed the arrangements for opening the Libyan coastal road between Misrata and Sirte and solving all the problems that accompanied the closure of road.

Fathi Bashagha meeting with members of the 5+5 Military Committee that are affiliated to the Presidential Council.

The meeting participants agreed to form a joint security force, combining police and military, to secure the coastal road and equip it with all the means it needs.

The meeting comes days after the Egyptian delegation’s visit to Tripoli and their meeting with Bashagha, confirming their support for the stalled 5+5 military agreement. The GNA’s Defence Minister Salah al-Din al-Namroush, however, is still seeking to block the agreement as he made clear through several statements he issued.

It is noteworthy that the Hattin Brigade affiliated to Bashagha, which was and is still its commander under the cover of the Misrata Military Council, has announced its withdrawal from the coastal road west of Sirte in implementation of the 5+5 military agreement while the rest refused to implement.
