Sinam Mohamad: Turkey and its Militias Are Involved in Sending Kidnapped Kurdish Women to Libya – Al Marsad

The Syrian Democratic Council Representative to the United States, Sinam Mohamad, called for the formation of an independent international commission to investigate sexual abuse and violence committed by pro-Turkish militias in Afrin against Syrian women of Kurdish origin.

(Libya, 6 January 2021) – According to Sky News Arabia website today, Sinam Mohamad demanded the European Union (EU) and the United States, particularly the US Congress, to participate in the formation of this committee so that justice can be achieved.

Sinam said it was recently revealed that abducted Kurdish women were sent to Libya as sex slaves—this action was no different to what ISIS has done against Yazidis in the areas they seized.

Sinam Mohamad said that the crimes committed against the Syrian Kurdish women were war crimes, and therefore those who are guilty should be held accountable. She said that women who still held by Turkish-backed militias must be immediately released.

Sinam indicated that Turkey had formed an ombudsperson group, but that this was a mere formality, since the entity that constituted the committee was itself guilty of violations. She said, “How can the executioner and the criminal be a judge?”

She also pointed out that with regard to the file of detainees and human rights violations in Afrin and areas occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries, that work began during the start of the occupation in 2018, at a time when the city witnessed arbitrary arrests of women.

There were still many abducted women whose fate is still unknown, women had been assaulted, raped or requested to pay ransom for their release, and after payment  they were abducted several times again, she explained.

Sinam said it was recently revealed that abducted Kurdish women were sent to Libya as sex slaves. She noted that this action was no different to what SIS has done against Yazidis in the areas they seized, demonstrating the intellectual connection between ISIS and the militias supported by Ankara.

Hatimoğulları: Kurdish Women Kidnapped from Afrin Transferred to Turkish-Backed Syrian Militias in Libya

The comments by Syrian Sinam Mohamad, follows on from comments made earlier this week by Tülay Hatimoğulları, who is a Member of Parliament for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey. Hatimoğulları presented a parliamentary inquiry today to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, raising questions on the kidnapping of hundreds of Kurdish women and girls by Turkish-backed militias in Afrin, northern Syrian. Hatimoğulları also said that some of the kidnapped Kurdish women were taken to western Libya for sexual enslavement by the leaders of Syrian militias.
