Le Drian: New Government Must Dismantle Militias, Remove Mercenaries, and Open Coastal Road – Al Marsad

France has announced its full support for the new Executive Authority in leading the political transition in Libya until the 24 December 2021 elections.

(LIBYA, 27 February 2021) – The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, according to France 24, that Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian informed the Prime Minister-designate of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid Dbaiba, and the new LPDF-appointed President of the Presidency Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, of his countries position.

The ministry stated that “the foreign minister assured his interlocutors of France’s full support in the task of completing the transition entrusted to them by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).”

It also continued to say, “Le Drian reaffirmed France’s desire to restore Libya to its full sovereignty, unity, and stability.”

Le Drian also stressed the importance of forming a representative and credible government to successfully organize the elections and implement the ceasefire agreement concluded on 23 October, stressing that in addition to reopening the coastal road, the dismantling of the militias and the departure of foreign forces and mercenaries loyal to Turkey and Russia, must be implemented quickly.
