Member of the House of Representatives (HoR) and of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), Rabia Aburas denied having seen any kind of bribery, whether on herself or on the part of others, and demanded a full investigation to adjudicate the matter.

(Libya, 1 March 2021) – Rabia Aburas said in her personal blog: “Investigation and accountability is an essential element in the concept of democratic governance that is based on constructive engagement. On the basis of this principle, we feel sorry for what has been reported about us and reported by the local and international media regarding the bribery by some members of the LPDF in exchange for their votes.”

She also called for an expanded official and community accountability that includes all the LPDF members, and said: “Although I did not see before me any deal of this kind, or was I offered money by any party participating in the dialogue, and I exercised my right to vote in full transparency.”

Aburas demanded the Attorney General, the Speaker of the HoR and the head of the advisory High Council of State to hold all members of the LPDF accountable, particularly those members who belonged to constituencies represented by the two councils and under their supervision.
