UN Mission Arrives in Libya to Monitor Ceasefire and Withdrawal of All Mercenaries – Al Marsad

An international UN monitoring mission consisting of 10 members arrived in Libya on Tuesday to monitor the removal of mercenaries from the capital, Tripoli, and the rest of the country.

(Libya, 4 March 2021) – According to the Agence France-Presse (AFP) one of the mission’s tasks was to oversee the ceasefire and the verification of the departure of the mercenaries and foreign soldiers deployed in the country, quoting an unnamed diplomatic source.

The source added that it is composed of representatives of the member states of the United Nations and experts from the UN headquarters in New York. The monitoring team was to also visit the cities of Sirte, Misrata and Benghazi on a mission that extends for five weeks. This was a preparatory team for the deployment of observers for the ceasefire monitoring mechanism, and the submission of a report to the Security Council on 19 March.
