Al-Mangoush: Government of National Unity is Committed to Fighting Terrorism – Al Marsad

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the interim Government of National Unity (GNU), Najla al-Mangoush said that the government was committed to combating terrorism.

(Libya, 31 March 2021) – The statement was made by the GNU Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush at a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, which was held on Tuesday at the invitation of Sophie Williams Wilmès, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, and Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State.

Al-Mangoush called for increased cooperation and coordination to put an end to the dangers posed by terrorist groups in several areas, including Sahel region. She added that terrorists were seeking to establish new strongholds, as was the case in Libya.

She also explained that the fight against terrorism is not limited to security but also to the intellectual dimension, because it represents an ideology behind its actions.

Furthermore, al-Mangoush stated that Libyan authorities have recently returned Tunisian families of ISIS members, in coordination with the Tunisian authorities. She said that cooperation will continue in the future.

The Foreign Minister stressed that the GNU will strive to achieve the aspirations of Libyans to restore security and stability, complete the democratic and constitutional process, and build strong state institutions in which rights and freedoms are respected.
