Akar to Dbaiba: We Will Continue to Provide Military Assistance and Training to Libyans – Al Marsad

Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU) and Defense Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbaiba, discussed with the Minister of Defense of Turkey, Hulusi Akar, the latest developments in the current situation in Libya.

(Libya, 13 April 2021) – According to a statement issued by the Turkish Ministry of Defense, the meeting of the two sides came during Dbaiba’s visit to Ankara to attend first meeting of the Turkey-Libya High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. Hulusi Akar stressed that his country aims to contribute to the formation of a regionally and politically united, peaceful and stable Libya.

Akar added that Turkey will continue to provide assistance, training and advisory support in the military and security fields to Libyans to achieve stability, independence and sovereign in Libya. He did, not however, refer  to the fate of thousands of mercenaries sent by his ministry from Syria to Libya, or that his forces have taken military bases in al-Watiya, Tripoli, Khums and Misrata.

According to the 5+5 Joint Military Agreement all foreign forces and mercenaries need to leave Libya.
